Coastal Defenders

Stormy Wembury Beach

Coastal Defenders

Step into the role of a coastal scientist...

In this interactive beach session, pupils investigate how different sea defences work to combat erosion by designing, building, and testing their own sea defences. Pupils will explore the pros and cons of each method and discover how our choices affect both local communities and the coastal environment.

Hands on activity on the beach making the principle of defenses more tangible for pupils to test. Also having pupils present work.

A two-part workshop including a session at Wembury Beach, followed by a free classroom session run by the National Trust (if desired)

This workshop can be modified for KS2-KS4 and is specifically designed to link to the secondary geography curriculum: Coasts- Coastal Landforms and Coastal Management.

It was fast-paced and the children were engaged in a clear activity that was easy for all of them to take part in and understand.

The sessions can be booked year-round so please Contact Us to discuss in more detail or Book Now

It was engaging. It allowed the children a choice of what type of sea defence to use and build it with natural resources. It gave them a chance to explain why they would use it. The classroom session gave the children a chance to use persuasive language about defences they wouldn't necessarily had gone for. A great variety of activities
