Wembury Marine Centre was the inspiration
of marine biologist Dr Norman Holme.

The Centre was opened in 1994 by Cllr John Squire,
chairman of South Hams District Council. It was built with funding from South Hams District Council, the European Regional Development Fund, English Nature and the Countryside Commission.

Wembury Marine Centre is managed today by a partnership of Devon County Council, Devon Wildlife Trust, South Hams District Council and the National Trust, and with guidance from the advisory group of the Wembury Voluntary Marine Conservation Area.

The Harris legacy

The Marine Centre refurbishment was also funded through a legacy in memory of William and Helena Heath (nee Hurrell) beloved parents of Dorothy Harris who appreciated natural places and wished to help future generations to further their understanding and enjoyment of them.
