Facts:
- Limpets live their whole life on the same bit of rock, called a ‘home-scar’, they grind it and their shell to make a perfect fit
- Limpets have a sharp radula – a bit like a tongue - which they use to rasp algae from the rocks
- As they move around the rocks to feed they leave a slime trail behind which can then be followed back to their home scar
- Limpets can live up to 20 years – the larger, older ones are called ‘grandmother’ limpets
- The limpets in our tanks help graze the seaweed that grows on the glass allowing you to see in and spot the other creatures
