Squat Lobster
Scientific name: Galathea squamifera
Size: Up to 6cm long
Colour: Greenish brown, youngsters are redder
Habitat: Rocky shores, under rocks
Facts:
- When disturbed they can dash backwards by quickly flapping their broadened tail.
- They feed by filtering edible matter out of the water, but also scavenge for carrion.
- The claws and legs are particularly fragile, so care needs to be taken while handling them.
