Orange-Clubbed Sea Slug
Scientific name: Limacia clavigera
Size: Up to 2cm long
Colour: White with yellow or orange markings on the finger-like projections.
Habitat: Most commonly found on the lower shore in shallow waters and sublittoral zone – but have been found down to 80m deep!
Facts:
- Feeds on encrusting bryozoans such as Sea-Mat.
- The “clubs” have different functions, like taste and smell.
- Some clubs contain defensive glands that make them taste bad to predators!
- They are hermaphrodites meaning neither male or female, they’re both!
