Long-spined Sea Scorpion
Scientific name: Taurulus bubalis
Size: Up to 20cm long
Colour: Can change colour to match background
Habitat: Mainly in rockpools, or rocky ground amongst algae up to 30m deep
- They are difficult to spot due to their excellent camouflage.
- Using their camouflage, they wait in ambush to snatch small animals, such as prawns.
- You need to be careful while handling them as they have small spines around their gills.
