Edible Periwinkle
Scientific name: Littorina littorea
Size: Up to 3cm across the shell
Colour: Grey or brown shell
Habitat: Rocky shores, on the surface of rocks
Facts:
- Their shells are shaped like those of land snails.
- They eat small plants by scraping them off the rock, while crawling across it.
- They are extremely common on rocky shores and are also found in muddy estuaries.
- Their larvae drifts with the plankton.
