I’m Bobbie and along with Chloe I am a summer intern from Plymouth University. I have just finished second year of Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology.
I am a real life Moana and have always been fascinated by the sea, even growing up in London I was fortunate enough to spend lots of time at the beach. Some of my earliest memories are stealing my mums bacon at our caravan in Kent to go crabbing with my brother.
I had my first taste of SCUBA diving when I was 11 on the Great Barrier Reef and from then I was hooked. I take every opportunity to get in the water and have been lucky enough to dive in many different countries worldwide. I took part on the HSE commercial diving course with the university last summer, which was brilliant on practising scientific diving skills. Wembury is one of my favourite shore dives in Devon, the shallow water is ideal for me because I can spend hours just watching the world go by on one cylinder.
After starting my career in London as a banker I was fortunate enough to go travelling for to years and that is where my passion for marine life and conservation really began. Since then I find myself preaching to anyone who will listen about our brilliant oceans and how we can go about saving them. I am a Marine Mammal Medic with BDMLR which I absolutely love and during term time I also volunteer with another community interest company, going into schools and events to teach children about our coasts.
Working at Wembury this summer is going to a brilliant experience, seeing the children and members of the public from all over Devon and the UK getting excited about what we do her at the centre gives me the motivation I need to continue the fight to saving OUR oceans!!.
